Maintainership changes for OG, devel, drush, groups.drupal.org, ...
I’ve been working on transitioning some of my Drupal responsibilities to worthy successors. I’ve been contributing to Drupal since 2001. I’ve picked up some cruft along with way :). More importantly, its really important to encourage the next generation of Drupal leaders. Making a name for yourself in Drupal is a little harder than it used to be. many of the obvious modules are well established. We need to look out for the motivated and talented newcomers and keep them moving up. They need opportunities to help our project grow. Also, I’ve lost some interest in some of my earlier projects. I think it is better to hand them over smoothly than to let them wither away.
With that mind, here are some recent changes in my world ...
- Amitaibu is the new maintainer of Organic groups. Amitaibu has been contributing and ideas in the OG issue queue for a while. He’s also nearly done with a fantastic port of OG for Drupal 7. OG just celebrated its 5 year anniversary - time for a change.
- Greg Knaddison (greggles) and Josh Koenig (joshk) have taken over as webmasters of groups.drupal.org. These are two of the most dedicated and talented community leaders we have. groups has stagnated a bit in terms of features and vibrancy. Lets help re-energize by adding maps, reply via email, events upgrade, theming tweaks, etc.
- Greg Anderson is now a co-maintainer of drush. Greg has done some terrific work in the HEAD branch, adding a site alias feature. This allows us to run drush commands on remote servers, without the tiresome task of connecting to them via SSH. Coming soon is the ability to issue commands on multiple remote servers by waving your hands at your computer. Well, almost.
- Alex Bronstein (effulgentsia) has taken over as maintainer of the Theme Developer module. This module used to be packaged with devel module but is now its own project. Alex has been a force in the Drupal 7 issue queue, and his theme system knowledge is superb. He’s an upgrade here, for sure.
It might sound like I’m preparing a one way trip to a tropical beach. Alas, not so. I’m still having fun working on Drupal 7, Data migrations into Drupal, drush, devel, and more. Drupal’s ascent is just beginning, and I’m not missing the ride.

I just want to say thank you for all your work on Drupal and it's environ.
Hopefully this transition will free up some of your time to work on other drupal projects that interest you. It's looks like you have found good people to try and fill your shoes.
Thanks for all these great projects. Most people would have a difficult time letting them go. Congratulations!
Thanks for the years of help and your continued dedication. I'm looking forward to seeing "what's next" for you ;)
